He died at Friendship Manor from complications caused by a boating accident at Smith Mountain Lake that occurred in 1994. He was the owner and operator of Roanoke Seamless Gutter in Roanoke and was preceded in death by his mother, Violet M. McRoy and a sister, Karen S. Chandler. Surviving were his father, Francis B. McRoy, Roanoke; brother, Buster McRoy, Boones Mill; sisters, Brenda M. Farley and Tammy Goodbar both of Vinton; and nieces and nephews.
