About Mark Edward Hartsel, 49, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019. He was born in Roanoke on May 30, 1970, to Paul Hartsel and Barbara Lawson. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilbur and Mildred Cundiff, and Frank and Mary Hartsel; and childhood lifelong best friend, Rex Gearheart. He was a control room supervisor at the Virginia Department of Transportation in Salem. Mark loved fishing and playing his guitar. He was a big fan of University of Miami football and spending time with his dog, Betty. In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by two sisters, Kim Poff (Kenny) and Karen Williams (Jeff); stepmother, Bonnie Hartsel; nieces, Jordan Williams and Haley Williams; nephews, Logan Poff and Jeffrey Williams Jr.; numerous other family members and friends including his girlfriend, Sara Mundy and her children, Wyatt and Bryanna, Bobby Spradlin, Russell Williams and Jeff Astin. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Linnie Dickson officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
