Scott Ivar Benson, 28, of Vinton, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 28, 2004. He was a 1993 graduate of William Byrd High School and presently serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rodney M. Davis FFG-60. Scott is survived by his fiance; mother and stepfather; father; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters. He left behind numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and a list of friends beyond number. Scott was loved by all who knew him and he loved everyone he met. He had a heart of compassion and a gift of sacrifice and always saw the best in everyone. He had a faith and trust in the Lord and his fellow man and lived his life in such a way that all should strive to follow. Scott was a big part of our hearts and will be deeply missed by everyone. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Eric Spano officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
