About Samuel George Spangler, of Roanoke, died Tuesday December 9, 2014 after a lengthy illness. "Mr. Sam" is survived by his wife of 62 years, Inalee Blair Spangler, three sons, Steve and his wife Ruth, living in Wilmington, NC, Roger, living in Rock Hill, SC, and Eric and his wife Pam who live in Lynchburg, VA. In addition to his sons, Sam is survived by seven grandchildren, and three (soon to be four) great grandchildren. Sam founded and operated Superior Carpet and Upholstery in Salem until his retirement. He was a very active church leader at Vinton Baptist Church and Riverdale Baptist Church. He led and loved the Pete Creasey Sunday School Class. Sam was an accomplished wood worker and was known around Roanoke for his "Boxes by Sam" creations. He loved to fish and thought Craigs Creek was the most beautiful spot he had ever seen. Memorial services will be held Monday afternoon, December 15, 2014 at Vinton Baptist Church. The family will meet friends from 1-2 and the service will begin at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be given to the "Helping Hands Ministry" of Vinton Baptist Church. Special thanks to all who helped Dad during these last few years. He could not have made it without your care. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
