About	Katherine Gayle Nance, 57, a resident of Salem Health & Rehab Center, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009. A native of Vinton, Gayle was predeceased by her mother, Jean Latimer Nance; and brother, Robert Brooks Nance. Gayle was a life-long lover of animals and folk music. She served for 20 years as a lab technician, then as a medical technologist, for Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem before succumbing to illness in her later years of life. Surviving are her father, Laurie Brooks Nance, of Mount Airy, N.C.; sisters, Laurel N. (and Mark) Holder, of Roanoke, and Patricia N. (and Paul) Neuroth, of Charlottesville; nephews, Evan (and Brittany) Holder, of Hatteras, N.C., and Ethan Holder, of Roanoke; and niece, Lydia Neuroth, of Charlottesville. The family wishes to thank the staff of Salem Health & Rehab Center, as well as a loving room-mate, Brenda Wright, for their care and attention during these past months. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. There the family will receive friends and provide a musical tribute to Gayle's memory from 1 to 2 p.m. (one hour prior to the service). While flowers are welcomed, donations also may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA.
