About	Stanley Darnell Poindexter departed this life on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. Stanley was born on March 14, 1961 to the late Dazelle and Lucille Poindexter. Stanley was a loving and kind-hearted person who showed great strength and unwavering faith, which sustained him through his many physical battles. He always trusted in God and encouraged the family to do the same. Stanley accepted Christ and was a born-again Christian and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. Stanley loved praise and worship and playing his guitar for the United Souls Gospel Singers and other groups. He was a missionary who patterned his life after Jesus and the Apostle Paul; he was full of spiritual wisdom. He was a graduate of William Byrd High School and continued his education at Virginia Western Community College and Shaw University. He was knowledgeable about many subjects. He often counseled others and gave his advice acting as if he was a lawyer, preacher, mentor, doctor, chef, musician and missionary. At family gatherings, his spaghetti was second to none. When he went to the hospital, he always tried to diagnose himself and instruct the doctors. They would ask, "Where did you go to medical school?", and of course he had an answer for them. Everyone that knew him enjoyed his many conversations and sense of humor. There was always a time to laugh in his presence. Stanley was a great person with many qualities. He was a father figure to his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He did not hesitate to keep them on the right track. He supported them in all of their endeavors. Each was special and received his utmost love and respect, and it was reciprocated. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Poindexter; brothers, Eugene, Dazelle Leroy and Tyrone Poindexter.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Baldwin Poindexter; brothers, Ronald (Geneva) Poindexter of Gary, IN, Frank (Marguerite), Charles (Mary) and Russell Poindexter, all of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Juanita Leftwich, Gwendolyn (William) Hayden, Jacqueline Robinson, Marva (Merle) Casey, Kathy (Frank) English, all of Roanoke, VA, Victoria Poindexter, of Murfreesboro, TN; sister-in-law, Shirley Poindexter; uncle, Bernard Duckett, of Youngstown, OH; aunts, Inez Johnson and Irene Clayborne, both of Columbus, OH; Mary Moyer and Delois Poindexter, both of Roanoke, VA; step-daughters, Amy (Rick) Street, Jennifer (Tom) Snedicker, Cara (Matt) Bartolacci and Emily Kwansa; 10 step-grandchildren including special grandsons; Payton Bartolacci and Colby Street, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home with Bishop Frank English, Officiating and Pastor James R. Calloway, eulogist. The family will have a visitation on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.
