About	Herbert Hudson (Herbie) Snyder Jr. of Vinton, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, with his family keeping a loving vigil by his side. He was born on July 28, 1931, to the late Herbert and Dewey Snyder. In addition to his parents, Herbie was preceded in death by his brothers, Norwood, Wes and Jack; sisters, Eleanor, Iris, Gretna and Phyllis; and granddaughter, Kristin Newson. Herbie was a multi-sport standout athlete at William Byrd High School and was awarded a football scholarship to Virginia Tech. He graduated after serving in the United States Army. His love of sports continued as a coach, referee and left fielder on the Roanoke Scrappers. He was in real estate for many years and ended his career at Olde Colony Realty. Herbie also shared his Irish tenor voice in high school and was a longtime member of the Lynn Haven Church Choir. Lynn Haven was an important part of his life where he served as a Deacon and on many committees. Herbie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dixie; brother, Dave Snyder; daughter, Tracie Newson and her husband, Perry; sons, Stuart and Steven Snyder; grandchildren, Ryan Newson (Rebecca) and their sons, Atticus and Isaac, Adam Newson (Mandi), Daniel Newson (Sondra), Katie, Claire, Cameron, Grayson and Hudson Snyder; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He also loved his faithful friends. The family would like to thank the Lynn Haven Church family and Good Samaritan Hospice caregivers, Lorrie, Kathy and Pat. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Lynn Haven Baptist Church in Vinton. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Mountain View Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to Lynn Haven Baptist Church, Vinton, Va.
