About	Donald Darrell (Don) Darnell, 83, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents, James Harvey Darnell and Polina Ratcliff Darnell; and his brother, Raymond Darnell. Left behind to cherish his life time of memories, his beloved wife and best friend of 56+ years, Rebecca “Becky” Dowdy Darnell; his son, Donald Darrell Darnell II (Sue Lottermoser); sister, Evelyn Darnell Campbell; sisters-in-law, Mickey Dowdy Patterson (Nat), Ruby Dowdy (Carl) and Joan Dowdy (Tommy); and many beloved nieces and nephews. Don was a life-long resident of Vinton, Va., and a 1953 graduate of William Byrd High School. He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving with honor and distinction and a 50+ year member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge #204. Don was blessed with many talents. He designed and built several duplex homes in Vinton and several commercial buildings in Roanoke. Don retired in 1997 as owner of Darnell Paint and Wallpaper Center and spent his semi-retirement years owning and managing many rental properties. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Clifford Nottingham, Dr. Timothy Beirne and staff and Valley Nephrology and staff for their excellent care. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted at noon on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Life was simple and sweet to Don with his love especially for birds and dogs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Saint Francis Service Dogs, P.O.
