About Marshall H. Fairchild, age 75, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at his home. Marshall was born 2 April 1947 in Roanoke County, Virginia to Ceril and Virginia Lambert Fairchild. He graduated from William Byrd High School in Roanoke County, VA in 1964. He joined and served in The United States Airforce and toured the world for 24 years. After retiring from the Air Force as a Master Sargeant, he joined the DOD as a Civil Servant to Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is a combat support agency within the United States Department of Defense for countering weapons of mass destruction, located in Northern, Virginia. He worked and retired from civil service after 24 years. A combined Federal Service career of 48 years and 69 days. He Received many Meritus service awards during his time in both the Air Force and at DTRA. Retiring in Springfield VA then moving down to Bedford, VA to live with his brother Gerald Fairchild and later moving to Leesburg VA.

Despite referring to himself as "Ol 'Grumpy", Marshall was a tender-hearted kind man. Always with a quick-witted barb or rightly timed text of a meme picture to brighten the day. Marshall was always a friendly talkative person and made many lifelong friends, whether relatives, people from work, neighbors, friends of friends, or just people in his daily functions, to all of his doctors and care givers.

An avid lover of good food, wine and people he always found places to go to at the drop of a hat and was always willing to share with people around him, and even abscond with a "partner in crime" on a new food or wine adventure. Although his all-time favorite was the almighty hot dog first from the Roanoke Weiner Stand (even sending operatives down to bring 10 all the way to him in northern Virginia on occasion), and later from other more local establishments. He mostly enjoyed the company and opportunity to share stories with a friend or loved one. He spent lots of his time researching his family genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Ceril; sister Donna Sue Fairchild Preissner and brother Gerald W. Fairchild; first wife Dorothy Patricia Fairchild. He is survived by his second wife Lora Fairchild, two sons from his first marriage; Josef Fairchild and wife Kim of Fairfax, Virginia and Randall Fairchild and wife Maria of Crofton, MD and three grandchildren; Zachary Fairchild, Parker Fairchild, and Delia Fairchild.
