Charles C. Cook, 71, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at his residence. He was retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railroad after 40 years service as road conductor. He was a 1952 graduate of William Byrd High School. Charles also served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the son of the late Ernest Griffin Cook and Annie Elizabeth Stanley Cook and was preceded in death by a sister, Tina Cook Woods. Survivors include his loving wife, Norma Jean Williams Cook; one son, Charles C. (Chuck) Cook, Jr. of Botetourt County; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Jean Cook Wyatt and husband, William M. of Mannasas; four grandchildren, Laura Katherine (Katie) Wyatt, Zachary Charles Wyatt, Justin Michael Wyatt and Joshua William Wyatt; three brothers, John Ernest Cook and wife, Patsy, of Roanoke, William (Bill) Cook of Vinton, David Lee Cook and wife, Anne, of Daleville; one sister, Martha Elizabeth Gray and husband, Kenny, of Vinton. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Charles' life will be conducted 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2004 at the Lotz Vinton Chapel with Rev. Jeff Terry and Rev. Aubrey Dooley officiating. Burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel. Flowers would be appreciated, but memorial gifts may be made to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford or to Barnhardt Baptist Church Building Fund.
