About	Larry Thomas Michie, 77, of Roanoke, Virginia, was called to his Heavenly Home on Monday, April 26, 2021, to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in eternal life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas R. Michie Jr. and Elizabeth Smarr Michie. Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carol Anne Locke Michie; sons, Mark T. Michie (Dana) and Scott A. Michie (Anne); grandchildren, Rachael Lilly, Karen, Thomas, Olivia, Andrew, and Ian; great-grandchildren, Max, Emma, Eli, and Sonny; brothers, Wayne R. Michie and Bruce R. Michie (Yvonne); devoted cousin, Sharon A. Ralston; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Larry was a 1962 graduate of William Byrd High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He pursued further studies at Roanoke College and the University of North Carolina. Larry was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam with the 554th Red Horse Squadron in 1968 to 1969. Larry was dedicated to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who shared countless memorable events with all family members over the years. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren and often enjoyed their company in special weekend sleepovers. Larry was a man of many aptitudes and interests who touched the lives of others. He was known for his kindness, quick wit, and generous sense of humor. He was a successful businessman who served both corporate and individual clients with a degree of professionalism and personal concern. Such was his attention to their needs that many of his clients became lifelong friends. He was an independent broker owning the Michie Agency. He also served in leadership roles in many civic and professional organizations. Larry was a voracious reader with an encyclopedic knowledge of history, politics, economics, and selected sports. He enjoyed many interesting discussions with his brothers and friends, including his good friend and colleague, Dr. James Sargent. Larry loved to travel and made several trips throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Western Europe, and Mexico with family members. Larry was an avid sports fan, with a special interest in early to mid-20th century baseball and football history. It was widely known that he had collected memorabilia, made personal visits and shared correspondence with many historic sports personalities. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to host a visit to Roanoke by the baseball icon, Mickey Mantle. He also enjoyed playing golf and shared many experiences with his sons attending tournaments and playing at many historic courses such as Scotland, West Virginia, St. Andrews, and Oakmont. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church on Cove Road in Roanoke with Father Rodolph Wakim officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
