About Ernest “Ernie” Wayne Holland went home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He was born on January 12, 1942 to the late Robert Holland and Fannie Anderson Holland.

Ernie proudly served his country in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1968. He then worked for GE as an engineer for many years. His career then led him to Virginia Transformer Corporation, where he worked as a quality engineer until his retirement.

Ernie was an avid hunter, gun collector, cyclist, and photographer. He was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon for a time. He could be found every Sunday morning, joyfully greeting his church family as they arrived with his catch phrase, “Hey, don’t I know you from somewhere?” Ernie never met a stranger. To him, a stranger was just a friend he hadn’t met; and he would eagerly share his love of Christ with everyone.

He married the love of his life, Jackye Holland, in 1990 and inherited a full family full of girls, including a daughter, two granddaughters, followed by two more great granddaughters, and even a little baby great-great granddaughter! He was the best “Papaw” anyone could ask for. He adored his girls and we all adored him in return. He will be greatly missed but we take comfort knowing he is now reunited with his loving wife, Jackye, in the presence of our Lord and Savior.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacquelyne “Jackye” Holland, his stepdaughter, Theresa Shell, his parents, Robert and Fannie Holland, and his brother, Danny Holland.

He is survived by his two granddaughters, Christa Woomer and Melanie Woomer, two great granddaughters, Fallon Stafford (husband, David Stafford) and Ashton Woomer, great-great granddaughter, Kaiya Stafford, and two sisters-in-law, Eva Longworth and Jeannine Spangler.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Virginia Veterans’ Care Center or Affinity Hospice. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to both organizations for their loving and compassionate care of our Papaw.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 to 4 PM Monday at the funeral home.
