About Freddie “Fred” Cox, 69, of Bonsack, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 19, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Opal and Emory Cox, grandparents and many close aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Fred is survived by his best friend and loving wife of almost 45 years, Lyn D. Cox; dedicated children, Neil Cox and Emilie Cox; lifelong protector and sister, Debbie and husband Mark Frye; special nephew, Jared Frye (Jennie), their children, Emery and Hattie; special niece, Joanna F Morris (Andrew); brother in laws, Bill Dickhart (Donna), Russ Dickhart (Lora Jo), Wal Dickhart; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also left to cherish in his memory are long time employees and friends of Country Corner who have become part of the family.

Fred was born and spent his whole life on the family farm in Bonsack . He shared many special memories while growing up with his cousins and family in Bonsack , which they treasured dearly. After graduating from William Byrd High School, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to selling fresh produce out of his 1972 pinto on the side of 460. While attending Roanoke College, Fred’s hard working nature led him to buy the land where Country Corner is currently located. With his wife and children’s help ,the produce stand expanded into a garden center and Christmas shop, a season which Fred dearly loved. He always made time for treasured family gatherings and four footed animals that came his way. His diligence which he inherited from his parents was passed down to his children, family, and close friends.

A memorial service will be held at Bonsack United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 1:00pm. A reception will follow the service . If you knew Fred well, then you know he would want things simple. For the service, in his honor, please wear a plaid shirt and jeans or casual clothing.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations be made in Fred’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
