About | Kathryn Adkins Holliday made way to her eternal home with Jesus on October 26, 2022. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Kathryn was the widow of Henry H. H. Holliday Jr. She was born on September 25, 1935, in Wytheville, VA. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Thelma Basham Brown and Carl F. Adkins. Kathryn was a 1955 graduate of William Byrd High School. She was blessed with a lovely singing voice, earning her All State Honors in Chorus. She continued to sing throughout her life, gracing her family and friends with songs until weeks before her death. Kathryn retired from Salem City Schools as a paraprofessional in 1997 with 25 years service. Her compassion and kindness made her a favorite with staff and children. She dedicated her life to family- never missing a scouting, sports, or extra-curricular activity that her children or grandchildren participated in, if she was available. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed. Kathryn was a Lifetime member and past Worthy Matron of Salem Chapter # 161 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also active in Bethels # 7 and # 69 of the International Order of Jobs Daughters. She served her church family for many years as the acolyte mom for First United Methodist Church in Salem. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Mary Holliday Hatmaker (Craig); her son, Hunter Holliday (Amy Willis); grandchildren, Laura Hatmaker, Julia Hatmaker Baker (Martin), Benjamin Hatmaker, Kaitlin Holliday, Garrett Holliday, and great grandson, Kash Carter. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Roberts; sister-in-law, Rowena Holliday Boehling, and those affectionately known as the OUTLAWS sisters-in-law, Marie Holliday, Cheri Holliday, and brother-in-law, Thomas Hudson. Kathryn was part of a large family with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. A celebration of Kathryns life will be Friday December 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, www.shrinerschildrens.org. The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice and staff as well as her personal caregivers, Sandy, Mary, Kelsey, Debra and Jackie; you all are our angels. |
