About Jerry Carlyle Engle, 82, of Vinton, Virginia went to be with the Lord on June 3rd, 2023. Jerry was born on April 27th, 1941 and was a graduate of William Byrd High School. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps for 6 years. He proudly worked for the Salem City Police Department, UPS, and Yellow Freight throughout his professional career.

He will be remembered for his love of driving and was known for always being on the move to new adventures. He was fond of the Gulf Coast of Florida and spent time in retirement living in Venice Beach enjoying the warm sunny weather and beautiful beach sunsets, where he met many special friends. While living in Roanoke, he often started his day at Hardees with his morning breakfast crew and grew to cherish their loyal friendship and company. He loved drinking an ice-cold beer in the evenings, spending time with his family, and petting every dog he crossed paths with. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and benefitted from his kindness, feistiness, sense of humor, and boisterous laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Madeline Engle; sisters Joanne Young; Kathryn Kelley (Elmon); Nancy Graham (Fred); and grandson Cole St. Clair. He is survived by his daughter, Terri E. St. Clair (Steve); son, Scott Engle (Emily Hall); grandchildren, Madelynn Paige S. Thompson (Steven), Autumn Engle, Austin Engle, Parker Touchton, and Blaine Hall; mother of his children Doris Engle; special friend Betty George; long-time military friend Jeff Cisco; and several nieces and nephews. He was excited to become a great grandfather this August.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel on Tuesday June 6th, 2023. A graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial donations may given in Jerry’s honor to the League for Animal Protection in Fincastle. The family would also like to thank the nurses and hospice staff of Cardinal Senior Living who showed tremendous care and devotion to him during his final days on Earth.
