About Ronald Alvin Motley, 85, was promoted into Heaven on June 7, 2023. He was born on May 27, 1938.

Having fought many health battles at the end of life, Ronnie or Ron as many called him ascended to Heaven from the beautiful mountains of his beloved Roanoke Valley.

A Vinton native and having lived across the Roanoke Valley, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Lacey (Gordon Cundiff) Motley (formerly of Blacksburg, Roanoke and Richmond) his parents John "Richard" and Ruth Motley of Vinton, brother Kenneth Motley of Vinton and sister Sandra Robinson of Texas. In addition to many family members, he is survived by his loving sister Carolyn Trainor of Fincastle and his devoted daughter, Rachel Schaefer, and her family of Stephens City, Virginia (husband David and children Andrew and Sarah).

Ronald retired from Yokohama in Salem, was an Army Veteran, a big brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters, previously co-owned the Bread Basket Restaurant in New Castle, Virginia, loved railroad collectibles, selling at yard sales and told jokes until the very end.

In lieu of flowers, consider showing someone you adore extra love or being extraordinarily generous to those in need.

Graveside service will be held on June 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. All are welcome.
