About Cherie Lea Mills Dicks, 80, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.Cherie was born June 21, 1943 in Roanoke, Va., and was a proud graduate of William Byrd High School class of 1961. Cherie was strong in her Christian faith and loved her relationship with Jesus and her family more than anything else. She had a wonderful gift when it came to interior design and had the pleasure of taking college classes centered around her passion.

Cherie was preceded in death by the love of her life for over 30 years, Paul Powers Dicks, as well as her father, Woodrow Mills, and mother, Madeline Shepherd.

Cherie is survived by daughters, Jackie Mennonno (Mark) and Jennifer Barker (Raymond); stepdaughters, Paula Nunley, and Jennifer Dicks; grandchildren, Alex Mennonno (Brianna), Sydney Barker, Erika Mennonno, Ian Nunley and Jason Nunley (Dawn); sister-in-law, Mary Virginia Gruver. Cherie also leaves behind her best friend and sister, Judith Burkholder, and loving brother, James Mills (Carol), as well as countless cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Cherie’s life would not have been complete without two of her closest friends for over 60 years, Barbara Ferguson and Priscilla Jennings. The family would like to thank Amedisys for their amazing hospice team as well as Joy Newton for countless hours of service to ensure the best level of care.

Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Oakey's East Chapel, 5188 Cloverdale Rd., Roanoke, VA. with service beginning at 2 p.m. with interment following in Fair View Cemetery, 3300 Melrose Ave. NW Roanoke, VA.
