About MaryJane T. Hill, of Vinton,VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the age of 99 with family by her side. She was born July 22, 1924 to B.K. and Helen Thomas of Roanoke. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Hill Sr. and brother B.K. “Jack” Thomas, Jr. Survivors include her sister Suzanne LaPrade of Staunton VA, daughter Mary Anne Snell of Mechanicsville, daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Alan Brumbaugh of Roanoke, son and daughter-in-law Robert B. “Rob” Hill Jr. and Sarah “Sally” Hill of Bradenton, FL. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren Jackie and son-in-law George of Richmond, Tim Urick of Vinton and granddaughter Dena and son-in-law Jeff D’Aiuto. She is further survived by one great-grandaughter Jewell McRoy of the Richmond area and by her great-grandson and daughter-in-law Chad and Holly Held of Richmond, and two great-great-grandchildren, Colton and Hannah Held plus nieces and nephews.

MaryJane was a graduate of William Byrd High School, Class of 1941, where she graduated as a top student. This was where she also met her husband Robert and was a devoted wife and mother for 62 years. She was a longtime member of Belmont Christian Church and was recognized in recent years as the longest standing member. Her long career in civil service covered many years with the Veterans Administration in Roanoke, as well as the Social Security Administration in Birmingham, Alabama where she was a Regional Claims Supervisor. She excelled in both of these positions, receiving numerous awards and promotions throughout her stellar career. Her hobbies included reading, word puzzles and TV crime shows. Her primary passion however, was her love of cats.

A viewing will be held Friday, December 1 at Oakey’s Chapel located at 627 Hardy Road in Vinton. A private viewing for family will be held from noon to 12:30 pm, after which the family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 pm. Interment service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery at 1401 Mountain View Road, Vinton. Memorials may be sent to Belmont Christian Church or a favorite charity.
