About Marilyn Lawhorn McKinley passed away peacefully after a lengthy and valiant cancer battle on August 30, 2024 under Hospice Care at Concord Place Assisted Living, Concord, NC.
Born as a twin to Guy Medford and Thelma Virginia Lawhorn on March 23, 1942, her mother died during childbirth and she was raised by Etelle and Violet Lawhorn in Roanoke, VA. After graduating from high school, she graduated from the National Business College in Roanoke and began her career as a secretary. She retired as a paralegal from the City of Concord after many years of service.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, Jeter Conrad McKinley, in 2021 and her twin sister, Carolyn Lawhorn, in 2010. She is survived by her son, Robert Shannon DeArmon, his fiance, Stephanie McCurry; stepdaughter Jennifer Jarrell, her fianc, Ken Joyner; granddaughter, Erin Grace; nephew Scott Cooper and his wife Ann; and many other nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, she loved working for her church, quilting, and was blessed by many friends, including Peggy Helms for over 45 years, and her dog Benji for 15 years.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make memorials to the First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
