About | Ty Allen Hodges, 36, of Vinton, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2003, due to a boating accident on the New River near Pembroke, Va. Ty was an avid outdoors person, he loved to hunt and fish. He was a devoted husband and father, and a friend to everyone, always willing to help anyone whenever he could. Ty was self-employed as Hodges Maintenance. He and his family were Vinton residents where he graduated from William Byrd High School in 1984. He was born in Roanoke to David I. and Linda D. Hodges on August 23, 1966. He is predeceased by his father, David I. Hodges; paternal grandmother, Elsie Stone; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Alma Dillon of Wirtz, Va. Surviving are his devoted wife of ten years, Linda Short Hodges; daughter, Renee Nicole age 2; son, Seth David age 7 weeks. Also surviving are his mother, Linda F. Hodges-Tinsley and her husband, Donald; sister, Rhonda Hodges Cornett and her husband, Sean; nephew, Greyson David Cornett; paternal grandfather, Glen Hodges and his wife, Pat; father-in-law, Russell L. Short and his wife, Janet; mother-in-law, Bonnie C. Hartsel and her husband, Paul E. Hartsel; sister-in-law, Catherine Short Watson and her husband, Wayne; niece, Victoria Watson; brother-in-law, David R. Short; nephew, Shayne Short; nieces, Whitney and Sarah Short, all of Vinton. He is also survived by numerous family members and many devoted friends. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Giles County Rescue Squad and the Scruggs Diving Team or the Va. State Police, all of whom worked tirelessly in their efforts to rescue Ty. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all the people and friends who gave their time willingly for rescue efforts and expressed such kindness, sympathy and concern. Funeral arrangements have been made through Oakey's Vinton Chapel with visitation from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Services will be held at Vinton Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, with Reverends Al Frank and William Hungate officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery. The family asks that everyone keep the Wagner family in their thoughts and prayers. |
