About | Dana (Danny) Glenn Kendrick, 65, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1952, in Roanoke. Predeceased are his parents, Oliver and Audrey Kendrick. Danny will be remembered most for his loving compassion for his family, strong work ethic, competitive spirit, great sense of humor, and, of course, his long drives off the tee. He grew up in Roanoke and was a longtime employee of Norfolk Southern, where he retired in 2010. Danny is a member of Vinton Baptist Church and was a strong role model for his children and grandchildren. He inspired so many people who crossed his path and was the rock of our family, the glue that always held us together. He never met a stranger and loved to talk about family, sports, work, and the stock market. Danny’s passions included playing golf, his nightly ice cream snack, and napping in his favorite recliner with the dogs by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Kendrick; daughters, Kimberly Fonder and her husband Dustin of Lillington, Sara Kendrick of Roanoke; son, Michael Kendrick and his wife Kelly of Blacksburg; “Opa” to his six grandchildren, Dakota, Mason, Jackson, Logan, Declan, and Nolan; brother, Ronald Kendrick and his wife Connie; sisters Rhonda Agee, Ellen Conner and her husband Reggie, Olivia Gregory and her husband Danny, and many nieces and nephews. His family will receive family and friends Sunday July 1st, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. There will be a gathering to celebrate Danny’s life at Vinton Baptist Church on Monday July 2nd at 11 am. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Vinton Baptist Church or Read Mountain Fire and Rescue. |
