About On Friday, December 22, 2017 J. David Jenkins (64) went to be with the Lord he loves so much. Born in 1953 in Leesburg, VA to Mr. and Mrs. John Jenkins Jr., he is survived by his mother, Geneva Jenkins, his wife of 40 years, Betsy Baker Jenkins; sons, Daniel, and Stephen Jenkins (fiancé, Melissa); sister, Linda Hanson; brother and sister-in-law Randall and Alice Jenkins. He also had many nieces and nephews who he loved tremendously.

David loved God, his family music and the outdoors. He lived his whole life in the scenic mountains of VA and he loved hiking, fishing and hunting. He was never happier than he was at the cabin telling hunting stories and playing music on the front porch. All good stories begin: “There I was…”. He especially enjoyed sharing the outdoors with son, Stephen and brother, Randy.

David had a beautiful tenor voice which he shared through the choir at Woodlawn United Methodist Church. He loved to play all types of music on his guitar and played with many different groups, friends and family.

He was so happy when friends and family all came together for a jam session and fellowship. He especially loved playing music with his son, Daniel and good friend, Dennis.

David went to VA Tech and taught school in Bristol for a few years before settling into a career as a machinist at Valley Machine, Inc. The family would like to thank Valley for their kindness during his recent illness.

Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Oakey’s South Chapel. A celebration of David’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 27 at 10:30 AM at Woodlawn United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodlawn UMC or Hunters For the Hungry.
