Kenneth Robert Brooks, 68, of Vinton Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2017, surrounded by those he loved so much. A lifelong resident of Vinton, he served his community as a volunteer firefighter and a Big Brother. He retired from Norfolk Southern after 40 years of service. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Brooks, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Shively Brooks; his children, Heather Brooks (Scott Lucas), April (David) Rodgers, and Brian (Connie) Brooks; his grandchildren, Lily, Harley, Joella, Drew, and Serenity; sister, Sandra (Gary) Correll and and numerous other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:30 AM at Mountain View Cemetery. Lifelong friend of the family, Darrell English will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Lotz Funeral Home Vinton Chapel. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Carilion Clinic Cancer Center and Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
