About Brenda Gaye Hinchee Simmons, 59, of Callaway, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 7, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 16, 1949; a daughter of the late Lucille Marie Stafford and James Herbert Hinchee, Sr. Preceding her in death was a brother, James Herbert Hinchee, Jr. Left to cherish her wonderful memory are her husband of 39 years, Dalton D. Simmons, of Callaway; three sons, David Simmons, and wife, Monica Mayo Simmons, of Roanoke; James “Jack” Simmons; Michael E. Simmons, and wife, Dawn McDowell Simmons; one daughter, Angel Bailey; one special “daughter”, Sue Nichols, all of Callaway; one brother, Jerry Hinchee, and wife, Barbara Riley Hinchee; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hale Kessler and Belva Simmons Forbes, all of Roanoke; three brothers-in-law, Alton Simmons, and wife, Tina; Clyde Simmons, and wife, Patricia; Eddie Simmons, and wife, Kathy; her Mother-in-Law, Margaret Marie Simmons, all of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Bradley, Whitney, Megan, Ashlee, Brandy and Katie Simmons; Wade Bailey; Danika and Brenna Waddell; two special “grandsons”, Wayne and Jacob Simmons. Brenda was a life-long, charter member of the Callaway Rescue Squad. A memorial service will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., with Jerry O. Custer, Captain of the Callaway Rescue Squad, and Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Flora Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses, Callaway Fire and Rescue or Carilion Hospice Services of Rocky Mount. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Morgan, Karen, Kitty, Francis, Sandy and Fran of Carilion Hospice Services for their excellent care of Brenda during her illness.
