About	Milton Davis Dowdy, 67, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord Monday October 13, 2014. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. Milton is preceded in death by his parents Oswald and Frances Dowdy, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Louise Brown. Born in 1946 in Roanoke to Oswald and Frances Dowdy, he was a graduate of William Byrd High School, Bluefield College, Mississippi College and Virginia Tech. Milton taught for Roanoke County Schools for 36 years, and one year in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He coached soccer for Roanoke County Schools for 22 years. He was devoted and very much in love with Bonnie, his wife of 38 years. Milton was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church for 34 years where he faithfully served as a deacon, youth worker, and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Aaron (Faith) and Chris (Emily); six grandchildren, Silas, Sam, Eliza, Charley, Jesse, and Max; sister, Carolyn (Jack), and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 6W Oncology Floor and Surgical ICU at Lewis-Gale Hospital for their care, concern and love for our entire family during this difficult time. Also special thanks to Dr. Fintel, Dr. Harron, Dr. Humerickhouse, and Dr. Habib. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held 1pm Thursday October 16, 2014 at Lynn Haven Baptist Church, (1501 East Washington Ave, Vinton, VA) with Rev. Dr. Michael Wrye and Rev. Dr. Robert Wayne officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday October 15, 2014 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. 2nd Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith".
