About Judy Deaton Brown, 68, departed this life surrounded by her loving family and was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 26, 2015.
Judy was an active member of Vinton Baptist Church having served as a deacon, working with Youth and Singles, served on numerous committees and was most recently the teacher of the LOA Sunday School class. Judy had a fulfilling career working as a Social Worker and Supervisor for the Roanoke City Department of Social Services. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling all over the United States and Canada meeting new friends. She was a member of Harmony Rebekah Lodge #36, Ladies Auxiliaries Patriarchs Militant #16 and #11 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. She not only served in her local lodge and auxiliaries but also on the State and International levels.
Judy was predeceased in death by her parents, Bernard O. and Ruth T. Deaton; and her dear friend, Marie Powell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loyal and loving daughters, Kimberly Robertson (Jay), and Kelly Balderston (James); her sister, Becky Flanagan (Kevin); her uncle, Alfred Taylor; and lifelong best friend, Judy Gordon. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Taylor and Nick Robertson, Carl (Jeanette), Ryan and Jacob Balderston; and great-grandchildren, Levi, Deidre and Baby Nichole soon to be born.
Funeral services will be held at Vinton Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. A Rebekah service will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the funeral. The family will receive friends at Lotz Vinton Chapel on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Keeley, and her caregivers, Tameko Burnette, Angie Isley and Emily Smith for their loving care and support.
