About Thomas A. Wood, 64, of Vinton, passed away surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 16, 2017, after a year-long battle with Melanoma. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Wood and his beloved grandparents. Tommy is survived by his “Beautiful Bride” and loving wife of 45 years, Karen; his son Allen Wood and wife Alisha; daughter Ashley Williams and husband Kellen; his four grandchildren, Ethan Wood (16), Carson Wood (11), Gage Wilkinson (8), and Nora Williams (11 months); his mother, Margaret Wood; brother, Barry Wood and wife Susan; his sister Bonnie Short and husband James; Father and Mother in law Bill and Jean Chewning; Brother-in-law Billy Chewning and wife Donna, his two best canine companions, Sid and Daisy, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Tommy was the proud owner and President of Wood’s Service Centers, Towing, and Transportation, and this year, his company is celebrating 60 years of service to the Roanoke community. Tommy was honored to continue this legacy his father started in 1957. He loved spending time with his employees and customers, and made many dear friends through his profession.

Tommy loved his family, and spending time with his grandchildren always put a smile on his face, even on his sickest days. He loved his friends, stock-car racing, music, and community events. He loved his community and did everything he could to support it. Tommy will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for life, and his willingness to help others without ever needing recognition for doing so.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center for their care over the past year.
