About | Robert Paul Burton, 57, of Roanoke, Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer on Thursday, March 13th, 2014. He graduated in 1979 from Virginia Tech with a degree in Finance and received a Masters in Business Administration in 1984. Bob has worked in banking for the past 35 years, with the last 27 being with SunTrust banks. Bob was an avid and passionate Virginia Tech Hokie fan for many years. He served in numerous leadership positions at First Baptist Church and Hidden Valley High School. Bob was also a faithful board member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Virginia Tech. Bob was a devoted husband to his wife, Kim, for nearly 30 years. He adored his two daughters, Meredith Chudy and Lindsey Burton, son-in-law Josh Chudy, and their canine companion, Lacey. He is also survived by his loving parents, Paul and Faye Burton, his brother, David and wife Maribeth; his in-laws, Gerald and Alma Lee Eden and sister and brother-in-law, Glenn and Lynne Siemon. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Richards and the oncology nurses Deanna, Jackie, Linda, and Susan for their exceptional care and compassion over the past year. Per Bob's request, in lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to FCA Chaplain at VT, 205 Jamerson Athletic Center, Blacksburg, VA 24061 or the "Connecting" Campaign Fund at First Baptist Church P.o. Box 2799, Roanoke, VA . The interment will be private. There will be a Celebration of Life Service to honor Bob's life at First Baptist Church Faith Chapel on Monday, March 17 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2015 at Oakey's South Chapel. Two scripture verses that we believe exemplified Bob's life are: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."
