About Joseph L. Bush Jr., 43, of Vinton, passed away Friday, May 23, 1997. He owned and operated J. L. Bush Jr. CPA. He was the former Executive Director of The Society for Advancement of Management Inc. He held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from Radford University. He was licensed to practice Public Accounting in Ohio and Virginia. His experience included service as a full-time faculty member at the School of Business at Radford University, an adjunct faculty member at the University of Cincinnati, an adjunct faculty member at Roanoke College, an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Western Community College and Hollins College. His teaching experience also included a Visiting Instructor in Corporate Financial Planning at the Jordan Institute of Management in Amman, Jordan. As Executive Director of the Society for Advancement of Management, he was the Chief Financial Officer of an International not-for-profit Membership Management Education Association. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of Mill Mountain Theatre, past President of the Vinton Dogwood Festival, past President of the Vinton Host Lions Club, a past Vice Mayor of the Town of Vinton and a member of Vinton Town Council. He was a member of the Vinton Chamber of Commerce, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, T. Martin and Sue Scruggs Bush; and Kelly Cook. Surviving are his wife, Connie M. Bush; parents, Joseph L. Sr. and Mary C. Bush, Vinton; brother and sister-in-law, Martin David and Deborah Garrett Bush, Atlanta; nephew, Jonathan Bush; grandmother, Bertie Goode Cook, Vinton; sister-in-law, Lorraine Bratton, Vinton; aunts and uncles, Irene F. and Fred Smith, Bel Air, Md., Harry K. and Joan S. Cook, Glen Burnie, Md., Tom and Lucille Bush, Richmond, Elizabeth and Henry Buck, Midlothian; several great-aunts and uncles. There will be a Lions Memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Monday, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted from Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 1997, with Rev. Dr. George Wesley Jones and Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Vinton First Aid Crew. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
