About Carl E Perdue Jr, born November 7, 1953, passed away on May 10, 2020 peacefully in his home in Roanoke, Virginia. Preceded in death by his father Carl Perdue Sr. and his sister Debra Price. Survived by mother Iris Perdue, daughter Adriel Roberts and husband James, daughter Summer Perdue, grandsons Brayden Mason and Ridley Roberts, brother Michael Perdue and wife Jeanean, life-long friend Melinda Perdue, and several nephews, niece, and many beloved friends.
Born on a naval base in Jacksonville Florida, Carl grew up with an appreciation of all things nautical and a love for the sea. He enjoyed being outside and loved camping, fishing and had even been a Boy Scout in his youth.
His love of music and playing guitar started at a young age and eventually led him to creating a rock band with friends in high school. Originally Destiny, the band transformed to Dazzle and toured up and down the East coast throughout the 70s. Carl still loved to play his guitar and did so regularly, always up for a jam session with family or friends.
Carl loved to create things. From drawing and sketching, building intricate train and boat models to building display cases to keep all his treasures in. A master carpenter, Carl could build everything from curio cabinets to elaborate playhouses for his two daughters.
An avid sailor, Carl spent most weekends on the water in his sailboat on Smith Mountain Lake. Whether sailing the Miss Virginia or the Debra Ann, Carl would always make time for ride if there was an ounce of wind. Carl was an active member of Blackwater Yacht Racing Association and Virginia Inland Sailing Association.
Carl will be lovingly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer at Smith Mountain Lake.
