About Michael “Mike” Glenn Gee, 67, of Roanoke, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Fallon “Jack” Gee, Jr. and Mildred “Millie” Robertson Gee.
Mike’s greatest possession in life was his family. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 47 years, Sherry B. Gee; his two daughters, Heather G. Davis and her husband, Blake Davis, and Jessica G. Redden and her husband, Bud Redden; his four precious granddaughters Kolbie, Emmalyn, Arizona, and Bailey; his brother Colin W. Gee and his wife, Barbara E. Gee; and many other family members including an aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the age of 16, Mike began working at Willis Welding. He later took over as the owner of the family company in 1996 and quickly became one of the most sought out welders in the region and in areas well beyond.
Mike was a dedicated servant to his community with 35 years of service with the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. He led the department in his role as Assistant Chief for numerous years and also served on many volunteer fire department committees and boards. Known as “Gunny”, he was a fire academy instructor who was respected and loved by both the volunteer and career staff. Mike was a true leader and mentor to many.
Mike married his bride on June 11, 1977, and was the most loving and devoted husband. Mike was the ultimate girl dad and loved his daughters fiercely. He loved his sons-in-laws as his own and was so proud to call them his. He also holds the title for being the best “Papa” to his precious granddaughters and doggy dad to his treasured boxer babies. He and his brother shared a very special bond. They worked in the family business and volunteered in the fire service together.
He was a great man with a heart of gold. There was literally nothing that he could not fix. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, plucking on his guitar, and being the best sideline cheerleader for his kids and grandkids in all of the sports. He leaves behind an amazing legacy and many memories for all of his family, friends, and colleagues to treasure.
Please join the family for visitation on Wednesday, July 17th from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. The celebration of life service will be held Thursday, July 18th at 10:00 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Graveside service to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
