Jerry served 20 years in the US Navy, from 1981 to 2001. He served in both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets onboard the USS Bainbridge (CGN-25), USS South Carolina (CGN-37) and USS Yorktown (CG-48). He also spent time in Washington state, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
