About Me	After graduating from Michigan State in 2003 I served from 2003 to 2005 as a math/science Education volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps, working closely with the University of The Gambia. After completing my service I traveled solo for two months across Africa. This is when the real (mis)adventures happened! During that time was I able to learn the Arabic number system, how to make bread in the desert, travel by camel through the Sahara, and rode on top of an iron-ore train overnight across a land-mined disputed region. While in Niger I also witnessed the famine of southeastern Niger and met up with the International Red Cross and Doctors without Borders. After a month of travelling I arrived at the legendary middle-of-nowhere city of Timbuktu where I was held locked inside my hosts’ house and had to jump the roof and hitchhike to the riverbed in order to escape.
