| About Me | After graduating, I spent two years of college in Alabama and Mexico City. Dropped out to sell encyclopaedias door- to-door in NY-NJ-PA-PR region for a year. Then, spent two years with US Peace Corps in Colombia and lived briefly with first partner. Moved to Puerto Rico for 3+ years, married first wife and had first son; also worked as a publishing executive and finished university in social sciences, graduating magna cum laude and with a love for alcohol. Spent the first part of the seventies in Guatemala directing the American Friends Service Committee's development programme; divorced. Then, spent the rest of the decade directing the Latin American Programme of Friends World College, living in Mexico and Guatemala and travelling in the region. During the eighties I continued living in Guatemala and worked as the managing director of the Inforpress Centroamericana political and economic news agency. I married again and had three more children. Frustrated by the impossibility of positive social change in Guatemala, we moved to the Netherlands where for two and a half years I co-ordinated the Greenpeace International campaign against toxics. Travelled widely in the global North. This turned out, however, to be the first job since I started working when I was ten years old in which I could not please most of the people, most of the time. Resigned from the job and from management and spent the next fourteen years as a senior advisor - paid not to make decisions! - with the private Dutch international development funding agency Novib; travelled even more widely in the global North and South. In early 2000s, separated from my wife and by 2007 had seven grandchildren. Currently live in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian partner but work internationally as an independent consultant in organisational development and as an evaluator.
