Alfred Smith
Class of 1986
Air Force, 20+ Years
Technical Sergeant Alfred D. Smith entered the Air Force in 1987. Following Basic Training he graduated from the School of Health Care Sciences Diagnostic Imaging Course, Sheppard AFB Texas in 1988. After tech school TSgt. Smith went to Malcolm Grow Medical Center for phase II OJT training. After graduating phase II, TSgt. Smith was assigned to Keesler Air Force Base in 1989. In 1990 he was introduced to the Interventional Radiology special modality. Over time he went from new technologist to NCOIC. In 1999 TSgt. Smith took a break in service and moved back to Connecticut to work at Yale New Haven hospital as an Interventional technologist. He decided to return back to the Air Force in 2000. He was again working in Interventional Radiology. Soon after returning he was asked to be the subject matter expert for the Air Force. Just after Hurricane Katrina TSgt. Smith was sent to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Germany to provide manning assistance. While there he performed routine Radiology exams as well as Interventional Radiology procedures. He was awarded the Army Achievement medal for his work there. Soon after returning back from Germany he was assigned to Osan Air Force Base Korea and the 51st Medical Group as the NCOIC of Radiology in 2007. After completing his tour in Korea TSgt. Smith returned once more to Keesler AFB in 2008 as NCOIC of Interventional Radiology and Radiology Logistics.
