Charles A. Waehler has co-authored a book “What do I say? A therapist’s guide to answering client questions” (2011, Wiley). Psychologist Waehler details the challenges and opportunities inherent in exploring client direct questions which are often a source of concern to anyone in the helping professions. Through a discussion of topics commonly encountered, the book guides mental health professionals in how to understand and use questions to explore what is said and what is implied. With this knowledge, personal anxieties about questions can be managed effectively and the attention can be returned to clients so that sometimes worrisome conversations can be turned into therapeutic engagements.
