About Me | My mom: By workers who worked with her: It's been such a long time since Elizabeth passed, but I can remember her in flashes, moments that stand still in time. She had long, straight blonde hair, some freckles, and was a larger built woman. I remember her as someone who was even keeled, level headed and not easily angered. She always put me in mind of my grandmother, who had a similar personality. How do you describe someone laughing, the sound of it? I remember that about people, and can see her laughing about something (or someone! Ha!! Ha!!)We all used to have such a good working relationship, and she also used to host a monthly meeting for the MHT's at her home. We would go and discuss work, then socialize. The memory that stands out for me- someone either came and told me that Elizabeth was at work, or I was picking up my paycheck. She was downstairs in the dining room, and R and I sat across from her at the table by the window. The sun was streaming in. She had the baby, and it was newborn. We talked at the table, and saw the baby- she told us that Kaleb wasn't quite sure what to think of the baby. We were laughing and talking and making plans for things we would do at work and upcoming things going on around town. R went into the kitchen to get coffee, and she asked me privately how things were. I had been going thru some personal issues. I told her it was getting better- and she said,' Things will get better, it just is going to take some time for you to have your own life again." She told us that they were going out of town, and was excited about her trip. I kept telling her the sun felt so good, and she said no, it was hot and shut her curtain. I tried to move it with my pencil, and she said" You had better not!" We laughed. We went back upstairs, because someone else came to see the baby. R called me and told me that there had been a horrific accident. The first thing I said was," Not Kaleb and the baby", and he said, " Not Kaleb” Everything was in a state of such disbelief and sadness and shock- it all ran together, and I remember nothing after that point except for Kaleb, because R spoke of him so often and saw him so much, and of course- worried over him I have contacted about four people that worked with us at Royal Oaks, one has responded. So, let me start where I began. When I started at Royal Oaks as a Mental Health Tech (MHT- glorified bodyguard for nurses), your mom was on dayshift as the Charge Tech. Your dad was on evenings as Charge Tech and I worked with your dad for a while. We really got along good, probably because we both liked the physical challenges that came with working around mental patients. Within about 6 months I was moved to dayshift and working with your mom. My wife also worked there in housekeeping so we got to know your dad and mom AND you. At that time you lived here, in Windsor, just off Jackson street I believe. We would stop over when all four of us had the same day off. About that time your mom told us she was pregnant. Everybody at work loved the idea, but, things weren't as good as we thought We didn't realize that your mom and dad weren't getting along. It wasn't long before your mom quit working at the hospital. She told the dayshift Charge Nurse that she thought your dad was getting "to close" to a nurse he worked with. I got that from the one person that has responded, she was the Charge Nurse. Not long after, your mom told another worker that she wanted to move away and leave your dad. We helped your grandfather move your mom to a house near Warsaw. I think your dad was living with that nurse at the time. We really lost track of your mom after that. Then we heard she had the baby and she and your dad were back together again. Not to long after that we heard that your mom, the baby and your step-sister died in that car wreck but you and your dad survived. I'll give you more on this later. Just know that what we remember about working with your mom and sometimes hanging out with her was a real joy. She REALLY loved to laugh, and did it well. AND, believe it or ...(read more) |
