Jay W. Smith, 84, of Rio Rancho and formerly of Urbana, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009. After graduation from Urbana High School, Jay served his country in the Army Air Corps in WWII. After the war, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Wooster, OH. Jay then worked as a geologist for most of his life. He greatly enjoyed wildlife and nature and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Smith; parents, Leonard and Naomi Smith; brother, Sam Smith, and step-son, Joe Meyers.
