Lt. Col. John Heimburger
Class of 1959
Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Heimburger, Class of 1959, graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Science. John joined the Air Force Pacific Command at the height of the Vietnam War. As an aircraft commander, he served in a combat role in Vietnam where he completed over 660 missions. He received the Silver Star, two Distinguished Flying Crosses and a Bronze Star. He returned to the U. S. as an instructor pilot and reservist. In 1972, he earned his MBA in Medical Management at the University of Utah. He was on staff at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and served as editor of the Medical Care Monthly and advisor to the U. S. Senate Committee on Health. He joined Frontier Airlines in 1974 where he captained some of the best-known turboprop and jet transports flown in military and commercial aviation. By the time he retired, he had accumulated over 31,000 accident free hours of domestic and international flying. John started the Continental Adventure Series where he has organized and led expeditions to the Alps, The Andes, Africa, Everest and other mountain ranges around the world. Along with his many accomplishments, John has found time to coach high school football work with the Boys Scouts of America and belong to the National Geographic Society.
