Scott Montgomery is Director of Music Ministries and Organist for Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, Illinois. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from the University of Illinois in May of 2005. In 2009, he will complete a Master of Music degree studying organ with Dr. Dana Robinson. Scott began piano lessons at age eight and was instantly fascinated by church and cinema organs. By age ten he was playing organ in various churches and from age 15 was entering competitions. In 1993 he won the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Guild or Organists' competition and began performing in the Midwest.
Scott has since been a prize winner in several competitions. Most recently he was winner of both the Lilian Murtagh Memorial Award and the Audience Prize of the American Guild of Organists' National Young Artist Competition, the first person to win both prizes in the history of the competition. Scott is now a finalist for the 2009 Jordan International Organ Competition in Columbus, Georgia. Scott has given numerous concerts around the country as well as a featured performer and presenter for music conventions and conferences. His performances have been broadcast on American Public Media's series, Pipedreams. He will be involved in the 2009 Pipe Organ Encounter in Wheaton, Illinois, as an instructor and performer. His debut recording, Water and Light, was released in 2008 by Pro Organo. His second CD will be released in late 2009.
