He was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Union City, son of the late Odie Ray and Annie Lee (Meek) Ams. He married the former Linda Smith May 25, 1962. She survives. He was a retired insurance agent for American General and was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He was a charter member of Bible Baptist Church near Union City and was the congregation’s song leader from 1975 to the present.
