Joined the US Coast Guard on June of 1965. Following Boot Camp in Alameda I was stationed on board the USCGC Eastwind, an icebreaker home ported in Boston. Spent nearly three years in the Antarctic and traveling in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific along with numerous South American countries. My last year of active duty was spent at a life boat station on the Massachusetts/ New Hampshire state lines. Following my Honorable Discharge I went to Boston University for my Bachelor’s and then on to Harvard for my Masters then 30+ years in public education. Following retirement I came home, finally, to California, settling in Arcata and now Yreka.
