Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Aug 11, 2001
About In my search for missing classmates, it is with regret that it was reported to me by Mary's sister, Ann Salisbury-Peterson (Class of 67), that her beloved sister Mary had passed away a few years ago. Ann reported that Mary lived in Peoria, IL, leaving her beloved husband Forrest, three children, and three wonderful grandchildren behind. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and by her friends as well. Mary was a friend of mine during our years of high school, and I will miss her at this 45th Reunion.

Ann, Mary's sister mentioned a story to me concerning Mary and a little known fact of the early history of Thornridge. The class of 62 was the second graduating class from Thornridge. The first graduating Class of 61 only had a half year at Thornridge as we all had transferred from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL in 1959. Because we were the first class to be there for one full year, our class had the notoriety to name several 'things' like the yearbook, the school paper etc., and the school mascot. The story goes like this . . . Mary and Sandy Short-Smith (Class of 63) had the privelege of counting the ballots to name our mascot. The name that actually won was 'Clarabell and the Boys'. Unfortuately Clarabell represented Mr. Tilden, who was our principle (I belive) at the time. The teaches thought that to be too disrespectful to use, so these teachers decided for us that the second name voted would become the Thornridge macot name . . . FALCONS. So, as Paul Harvey would say at this point . . . "Now you know the rest of the story".

Mary was a beautiful woman, both inside and out, and she lived life to the fullest. Her spirit was sweet and kind, and I shall always remember her with such respect. She will be greatly missed by all and expecially by me.

With deepest sympathy,
Donna Rae Wood-Pearlman
