About Ernest E. Robinson, Sr., age 85, of Louisville, Neb., formerly of Council Bluffs, and Beatrice, Neb., passed away April 17, 2010, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

He was born December 12, 1924, in Nebraska City, Neb., to the late Claude W. and Gladys Mae (Dukes) Robinson. He graduated High School and College and served his country in the U.S. Army/Air Force during WWII. Ernie married Iona M. Baker on June 9, 1946, in Holmesville, Neb. They were blessed with three children, Diana, Ernest, Jr. and Richard. Ernie was a teacher and coach for the Council Bluffs Community School System for 27 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. He taught industrial arts, carpentry, welding and drafting and coached everything except swimming and soccer at Thomas Jefferson High School and Woodrow Wilson Junior High. Ernie was the Career Center principal, 1972-73 and 74 (now the Tucker Center) when it first opened.

He was of the Methodist faith; lifetime member of the DAV; Beatrice, Nebraska American Legion; National, Iowa and Council Bluffs Veterans Associations; Beatrice Community Group; former Gage County Commander of the American Legion for 6 years and Commander of DAV in Gage County for 6 years; chairperson for the WWII monument at the Gage County Courthouse in Beatrice; former commander of Nebraska Chapter of the China-Burma-India Theatre War; Omaha Carpenters Union, Local #444.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Iona Robinson, of Louisville; daughter, Diana L. (Ronnie) Wohlers, of Weeping Water, Neb.; sons, Ernest (Janice) Robinson, Jr., of Villisca, Iowa, Richard A. (Judy) Robinson, of Council Bluffs; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Lee Robinson, of Omaha.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial, Wednesday, 1 p.m., in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. Family and friends to meet at the funeral home, Wednesday, 12:30 p.m., for the procession to the cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
