About Edward William Jones was born October 5, 1924 in Hamburg, IA to William G and Anna C. (Schuele) Jones he passed away February 28, 2017 at his home with family by his side.

Ed grew up in Council Bluffs and attended school graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School with the class of 1942. He joined the army in 1944 and served with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, 243 Port Company until he was discharged in December of 1946. While serving he was stationed in the Philippines, New Guinea and Japan. Following his service he returned to Iowa where he married Gladys Deterding October 6, 1947.

He began working for Union Pacific Railroad as a Chief Clerk Telegrapher and continued on for 42 years. He also was a real estate broker in Iowa for 10 years.

Gladys and Ed made their home in rural Plattsmouth where they raised their children, Stephen E, Randall G, Peggy, Charles W. and Daniel B. Ed was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Knights of Columbus. While working he also was a 4-H leader for the Lewiston Rooters and a Boy Scout Leader Troop #471 in Murray.

Following retirement he was involved with Junior Old Timers and was Past President of the Railway Clerks Union.

Ed is survived by his wife: Gladys; children: Stephen E. (Kathleen) Jones of Huxley, IA, Randall G. (Pamela) Jones of Council Bluffs, IA, Peggy Jarrell husband (Steven Mieska) of Council Bluffs, IA, Charles W. Jones of Plattsmouth, NE, Daniel (Robin) Jones of Waverly, NE; 12 Grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, brother: Leonard Jones of Council Bluffs, IA; brother-in-law: Raymond Lustgraaf of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters-in-law: Donna Jones of Broken Arrow, OK, Rita Jones of Olathe, KS. Margaret Deterding of Soquel, CA and Marlene Wise of Vancouver, WA. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: parents: William & Anna Jones; sisters/brother: Dorothy Jones, Elizabeth (Edward) Groves, Marjorie Hudson, Doloris Lustgraaf, nephews: Jimmy Jones, Alvin McKeever, Dean Jones, Thomas Jones, Richard Jones, brothers-in-law, Beryl Burbridge, John (Alice) Deterding, Leo Deterding, Charles Deterding.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 1:00 – 5:00 PM at Harvey Funeral Home then 6:30 until 7:30 PM at Church of The Holy Spirit with the family present with the Rosary to follow at 7:30 PM

The funeral service will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 10:30 AM with Father Loras Grell officiating.

Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Plattsmouth, NE.

Memorial may be made the St. John’s The Baptist School in Plattsmouth, NE
