About Vernon Eugene Thompson, 67, of Mission, TX passed away on April 20, 2021, after a short, unexpected battle with an Aneurysm in his heart.

Vernon, was born on August 31, 1953 to Jess and Dorothy (LeMaster) Thompson in Council Bluffs, IA. Then after a tragic family accident, when Vernon was a small child, he and younger siblings went to live with their Uncle and Aunt, Leonard & Lorraine LeMaster, who he later called his parents.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1973, he went on to work for The Union Pacific Railroad in several different positions. In 1973, he met Elizabeth "Betsy" (Batt) Thompson and they wed in September of 1974, residing in Council Bluffs, IA and going on to have 2 children, Jodie Lynn & Craig Allen. They later Divorced in 1978.

Soon after, he met Tamela (Neemann) Thompson and they married in October of 1979, residing in Omaha, NE, Fremont, NE, St. Charles, MO and later in Ames, NE. Going on to have 3 Children, Katie Jo, Kiffini Jill, and Kristopher John. They too later then divorced in September 1997.

He then met Partner Neva Grant and resided with her until his passing. In 2015 Vernon retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 40 yrs. of service, and moved to Mission, Tx. Where he enjoyed living at his Retirement Village, Tradewinds Trailer Court. He participated in all of the events that they held, eventually becoming the Official "Griller" at them all. And yes... he also became the park's official "Lawn Mowing Man." Vernon, was a hardworker. Good provider, loved his family dearly, and to many a Great Friend. He was always there for others. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating and camping. He loved doing yard work, he took pride in it. He loved to bowl, and play pool and darts and was on several leagues thru out his life. He was taken way too soon from Us All, and will be Greatly Missed, but Never Forgotten. He will continue to Live on helping others. As he always liked to do. After his passing in San Antonio, TX Methodist Hospital, where he was life flighted from Mission. Jodie, Craig, Katie, Kiffini and Kristopher had donated his eyes to the South Texas Blood & Tissue Donor where he will help many for many years to come.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dorothy Thompson, & Leonard LeMaster, Baby Brother, Allen Thompson, Sister, Linda Newman, and Ex-Wife, Elizabeth Batt.

He was survived by Three Daughters, Jodie Thompson & Carlos Chase, of San Antonio, TX, Katie Thompson, of Ashton, NE, Kiffini and Tyler Hilliard, of Oakland,, NE, Two Sons, Craig Thompson, of Council Bluffs, IA, and Kristopher & Jakki Thompson of North Loup, NE. Two Brothers, Jack & Sherry Thompson, of Council Bluffs, IA, Leonard & Marlene LeMaster, of Council Bluffs, IA, One Sister, Joyce Franks of Council Bluffs, IA. And Mother, Lorraine LeMaster of Council Bluffs, IA. Twelve Grandchildren, and Two Great-Granddaughters and many Friends from all over...

There will be a Private Memorial Service held in Council Bluffs, IA later this Summer. The Family requests that any donations that are given, be given to the family to help with the cost of a Memorial in his honor. And can be submitted on the website. As well as any cards that you want to send. We Appreciate anything you do, and Thank You All for your Love and Support thru this difficult time.
