About Me	This won't be a complete biography of me from 1973 to present but will mention the highs (and lows) but through it all God has loved me and I have loved and trusted God! 1973-autumn Started Anderson College now Anderson University in Indiana ( www.anderson.edu ) with my intent to be a sports writer. Worked at a pre-school my freshman year 1974-autumn WHOO HOO, Sports Editor of college newspaper and was asked to cover a high school football game for the city's newspaper! Some school (way out in the country) called Shenandoah. Got lost on way back to Anderson after game. My fuel gauge was all over the "E"! Yes, lost and almost no gas! I did a lot of talking with God until led back to Anderson. My side of the conversation was quite panicky! After that adventure, had a lot of serious conversations with God about His intent for my life. An elementary school teacher is what He told me after a few weeks of soul searching, God's voice came through the people who owned the pre-school I worked/ Did I mention that the couple who owned it was my former Pastor in Flint as I was growing up? I believe God speaks through the Bible AND people! 1974 Christmas time. Went to a special service called "Candles and Carols" that is now shown yearly and nationally every Christmas season on many PBS stations. Anyway, met a girl named Kathy after from a mutual friend. 1977-spring graduated from Anderson with BA in Elementary Education AND MARRIED KATHY (June 4) within a ten day period! 1977-fall Started teaching 2nd grade in a small town near Anderson called Middletown. The building was an old high school converted to elementary, Elementary schools get hand me downs from high schools too often! Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. The building made me feel very comfy-its design was similar to Mary Crapo that I attended in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade! We lived in Muncie, Indiana. 1980-summer finished my Master of Arts degree in El Ed from Ball State. Yes, David Letterman's school! 1981-spring our only child, Andrew Steven Pertler, joins our family on May 21, 1981. 1990- our school in Middletown combines with two other small town schools in a brand new building out in the country. The name of the new school, yeppers you guessed it SHENANDOAH! The same school area from which I got lost leaving from a football game way back in 1974! Don't tell me that God doesn't have a sense of humor! We moved to Middletown. We adopted Pumpkin, a golden retriever. She is best watchdog ever! 1999-spring I retire from teaching. Also in 1999-spring Andy graduates from Shenandoah high school and Kathy gets her MBA degree from Anderson University 2003- August 3 (6 days before 56th anniversary) My mom dies from Alzeheimers 2004- Andy graduates from Anderson University and gets married 2006- July 20 Pumpkin dies 2007- Kathy and I move to Indianapolis. She works at IUPUI ( www.iupui.edu ) and I am full time house-spouse We also adopt Sugar, a samoyed (you can see many more pictures of her) in an album on my Facebook! We adopt her on January 4, 2007. 2011-My dad remarries (July 30) Joyce 2011- Andy remarries to a real sweetie (Mimi on October 22)! 2013- Since graduating from SC-I have earned two college degrees, married over 36 years to Kathy, have a wonderful son, daughter-in-law, and step grandson AND Sugar.
