Alumni Stories
Kathryn Ann Oppido
Class of 1964
I was only at Surratsville for my Junior and Senior years, and, we lived "on base" (Andrew's A.F.B.)...so, I haven't really kept in contact with anyone ... part of the military relocation/displacement "syndrome" if such really exists. Before Surrattsville, I was at Central High School (nearby) and District Heights Jr. High. While Junior High was started in Texas (and almost finished before moving to New Jersey), my 8th grade in New Jersey was Lakehurst Elementary School (LES). I relocated back to Maryland in 1984 since my parents had purchased their retirement home here after Dad's 30 year military career (i.e. that's how I ended back in/near Clinton). With someone else to live with (a roof over my head with no rent, nor, work needed to pay such), I've tried to self-employ...freelance writing. Currently, for two possible projects, and, perhaps to get to know some more classmates, I am interested in hearing from/finding out Class of '64 alum who at some time during their school years were Girl Scouts. I was a member of the Girl Scouts of America, mid-50s, overseas and also upon our return to U.S., in Texas. One project involves obtaining xerox copies of Girl Scout badge sashes with badges circled which reflect occupations/careers that recipients actually chose/ended up in...perhaps for an article if anything of interest (and enough replies to be significant). I never became a pilot, nor learned to fly. My first airplane trip was during the summer after 3rd grade (Nebraska), over the Atlantic Ocean! It was very exciting, and, perhaps, one of the reasons for my love of the sea, and some scuba diving & shipwreck diving in the early 1970s.
