Jamie Lou Alcorn Padgett

Class of 1959

Utah is a wonderful place to write the concluding chapter in our Book of Life. I live here with our older daughter, Charlee, her husband and two children, boy 6 and a girl 4. We have a small apartment in Charlee’s downstairs.

George died in April and I am glad he is not trapped in his old tired body that could not do what his mind thought it could. It was so very frustrating for him and of course very sad for me. We would have celebrated the 61st anniversary of our meeting in July of this year.

The final chapter in our book will include my cross-country drive in our SUV camper conversion in the spring. I will do conversion during the fall and winter before I leave in April. There is so much of this beautiful country that I have yet to explore and I fear I better not wait much longer! As many of you class of 59ers know, I started my 80th year in April and I hope to celebrate my 80th birthday on the road! I will take my small, one-eyed poodle mix with me as my traveling companion. I plan to stop at many temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that dot the USA as I pass close to them. This odyssey will take several months as I visit relatives and friends. I will take a northern route going east and a central/southern route returning.

Of course I will visit our younger daughter, Julie, and her family in Greensboro, NC. I absolutely MUST cuddle and spend time with our two great!!granddaughters. There will be no stop in Florida since I have had enough of hurricanes to last the rest of my life!

My wish is for all my friends and classmates to have happy and healthy future years. It is never too late to improve our spiritual lives. I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father, his Son our Savior Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation—the real Plan of Happiness. I know with a surety that returning to them is only through repentance and belief in our Savior and His atonement that we may claim the gift of eternal life. Our choices determine our destiny………….

Fond regards to all,

Jamie Lou
