Class of 1970
Navy, 1 Years
Served on board the USS Charles P. Cecil, DD-835, a destroyer. Was transferred to the Inactive Navy Reserve to complete the six year military obligation. Part way through, I joined the Army Reserve on Rochester Hill for a one year stint. I believe Lionel Sylvain was in the same unit. After that I was transferred back to the Inactive Navy Reserve, until April 1976 when I joined the NH Air National Guard, in Civil Engineering as an equipment operator. In 1985, I became full time in the Air Guard as a Training and Logistics Manager. I retired in 2010 from both the full time position and the traditional guard position.

Wally Amidon
Class of 1968
Air Force, 4 Years
I spent three years on a mountaintop about three miles from the then East German border. I was in radar. We were in the 616th Aircraft Control and Warning squadron. I spent many a day watching the Russians fly formations toward us and turn aside as they approached the DMZ . The snow would come in October and leave the first week of May. The snow got deep on the mountain and sometimes we were walking on top of cars as they were buried under the snow. I had my wife, Jeanne with me after the first six months. We lived about a hundred yards from the fence that separated the two Germany's at the time. We went all over the place while we were over there. Our first son, Michael was born in Germany. From there I was stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mount Clemens, Michigan for the rest of my time. I never got to SEA. I put in for it but they wouldn't send me because I was married. It was a good life and I would do it again.
